Hello,

My name is Maeneen Klein with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department.

I wanted update you on our response to last Saturday’s fuel dumping into the Sugar Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant continues to successfully treat the ethanol contamination that occurred and is functioning well. The plant should resume normal operations early next week, with no expected issues.

As a precaution, we continue advising the public to refrain from human and animal contact with Sugar Creek / Little Sugar Creek (Tyvola Road downstream or south to Hwy 51 or South Carolina border) until further notice.

Due to the snow melting, we may need to store some water in holding tanks so we can maintain an optimal wastewater treatment process. It is possible the stored mix of melted snow and wastewater could lead to some odors.  We expect to treat this water relatively quickly, as flows resume to normal.

We would like to update neighborhoods.
