The USPS said Thursday afternoon that it would not deliver mail to ZIP codes starting with 280, 281 and 282 -- an area that includes large swaths of the city -- until travel is safer. That could happen today, since temperatures are expected to rise into the 40s, but the agency provides no estimate on when service will resume

 

Retail postal offices in those areas closed early on Thursday afternoon.

Customers are advised to make sure mail carriers can reach curbside mailboxes by clearing away any ice or mounds of snow
