City/County Offices City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County offices will open on a two-hour delay. Solid Waste Services
- Garbage, bulky waste, recycling and yard waste services have been suspended for the remainder of this week.
- Customers will receive service next week on their normal collection day.
- Residents who have accumulated extra garbage due to suspended services should double-bag and place it curbside prior to 6:30 am on their normal collection day.
- In an effort to collect garbage, bulky waste, and recycling, all yard waste collections will continue to be suspended for next week (Monday, February 17- 21) resuming on Monday, February 24.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police
- Asks public to remove their abandoned vehicles from the roadway. At 7 am, Friday, February 14, abandoned vehicles in the roadway will be removed and relocated for clearing by road crews.
- The tow fee is $85; however CMPD does not anticipate relocating many vehicles. Owners of removed cars may call 311 to locate their vehicles.
- 234 total accidents (213 property damage, 21 personal injury), 17 calls for disabled vehicles
Charlotte Department of Transportation
- Today, Priority 1 & 2 routes ( thoroughfares/hospital entrances/transit routes) were plowed and salted. This evening, Priority 3 & 4 (assistance for police/emergencies) are being cleared. After these roads are treated, crews will move into neighborhood and residential streets.
- Crews are widening clear paths on streets.
- When temperatures drop tonight and surface refreezes, crews will return to Priority 1.
- Black ice poses a hazard.
- Pedestrians venturing out this evening or tonight should wear bright reflective clothing, stay on the sidewalks if possible and walk facing traffic.
Charlotte Douglas Airport
- Charlotte Douglas International Airport remains open.
- CLT, airlines, TSA, concessionaires, coordinating passenger assistance for the evening for those passengers who will be remaining in the terminal.
- Approximately 1000 passengers are expected to remain overnight.
- The Red Cross has provided additional cots and CLT is providing additional emergency supplies including baby formula, diapers and bottle water.
- One runway remains open with second expected to reopen tomorrow morning.
- Crews continue to monitor the airfield and are pre-treating the center runway and taxiways.
- US Airways, a subsidiary of American Airlines, cancelled all arrivals and departures at CLT today.
- Customers are advised to please continue checking with their airlines for updated flight status before leaving to come to the airport.
Charlotte Area Transit System
- CATS will resume bus normal service Friday morning, February 14.
- Light rail continues to run normally, with 15 to 20 minute headways, but could experience delays based on the weather conditions.
- Special Transportation Services (STS) will operate on a normal schedule.
- CATS will continue to communicate updates about service changes to customers throughout the storm.
- Safety of riders and employees is top priority.
Mecklenburg County
- All regular court sessions for Friday, Feb. 14 cancelled. Some special sessions may occur.
- Clerk of County to open at 11 am on Friday, Feb. 14.
- Charlotte-Mecklenburg libraries will be closed on Friday, Feb. 14.
