Door to door soliciting

Posted in: Madison Park
I young man just rang my door bell saying he was raising money for "crossroads" (he talked very fast, so, I'm honestly not sure exactly what the charity was), and I would be supporting drug-free youth to better themselves. I sent him on his way, but, wondering if anyone else had experienced this? It was a scam, beware! This was on mockingbird lane at 5:45 pm 01/14/14

Thank You for sharing this on our web site. I copied the post to Officer Schwartz and our VP Valerie Delby.

Always best to send door to door solicitations on their way, and not give money or any info.

If any resident feels threatened in anyway dail 911.   I say this because in the past we have had a few door to door people get ugly when they were told no.

Officer Schwartz e-mailed just now to say they had no police reports on this actiity and to please call 911 on any similar or same type incident so the person(s) can be checked out.

Also I noticed on WCNC-tv web site yesterday that the Travelers have been spotted in the Lincoln County area.

We have had residents that were victims of these scammers in past years.

They normally have SC or Geogia plates (sometimes NC), take deposits, change price after work is complete, and never if they even do the work provide you with a contract.  Sometimes they take the money and run for the deposit.

So Beware of anyone knocking on your doors especially in pick up trucks offering to do a quick low cost project for you.

Often they do driveway work, or roof repairs.

The article said they sometimes break in your homes while they are negotiating with a resident.
