I was sad to learn today that Stephen Smith a long time member of the Madison Park HOA passed away this week.   There will be a funeral service for him on Tuesday Dec. 3rd, 2013   Stephen lived in Montclaire over on Burnley, but regularly attended our HOA meetings for years.    Services Tuesday 3rd  visitation 5pm &  service at 6:30 PM Arlington Baptist Church in Mint Hill.  Neighbors are invited to attend the services. 

Stephen will be missed by all of us that knew him.

Stephen Lynn Smith CHARLOTTE - Stephen Lynn Smith passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at his home in Charlotte, NC, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1947 in Concord, NC, he was the third of four children born to the late James Haywood Smith and Mabel Penniger Smith Sowers. He served his country in the U.S. Army during theVietnam War, worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance, Fast Tax and others until his disabilities from serving in the war kept him from pursuing a career. Stephen was full of life and never met a stranger. He will always be remembered for his laughter, his smile and beautiful spirit in the midst of the most trying times. He had a natural ability to make people feel important and loved. He was always ready to lift someone else up and make them laugh. Stephen loved working in the yard and anything to do with cars. He enjoyed the mountains and valued the time spent with friends. He is predeceased in death by his parents; his stepfather, David Edgar Sowers, and his brothers, James Haywood Smith, Jr., Howard Martin Smith and David Lee Smith. Stephen is survived by his loving wife and soulmate of 30 years, Stephanie Diane Smith. He was completely devoted to his wife and soul mate and he will be missed more than words can say. In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his nephew, Kenneth Wayne Smith of Charlotte and sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Mount Pleasant, NC. Friends and family are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00 to 6:30PM on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Arlington Baptist Church, 9801 Arlington Church Rd., Mint Hill, 28227. Funeral service will follow at 6:30PM at Arlington Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Gandy officiating.
