Easy things to watch for are:
Vehicles driving slow and circling the block and then pulling in a drive of a neighbor that you know is normally not home.
People going toward the back of any home that you know does not live at the location, especially when the owners are not home.
Door to door people. Avoid door to door salesmen, or people asking for donations. Let them know you are home, but don't feel the need to engage in conversation. Motion them away from a window. If they react in a bad way call 911 and report it. Certainly be cautious of doing business with a stranger at the door. Don't open the front door. Sometimes they will say they are working at your neighbors home or nearby. That most of the time is NOT TRUE!
Tips to Avoid being a victim:
Keep your blinds closed when you are not home during the day. That big screen TV might be what attracts a person to break in your home.
Keep hedges and bushes trimmed near your home.
Keep your alarms on if you have them.
Keep storage buildings locked and garage doors down.
Keep windows locked and doors locked when you are away or even out in the yard.
Let your neighbors know when you are away, stop your mail, have someone collect packages or newspapers for you. Stopping mail is so easy. Pick up the yellow mail hold card at the local post office. They will hold up to 30 days at a time. Post Office will deliver all your mail on the date you request delivery, or they will hold it for your pick up.
Let CMPD know when you are going to be away for periods of days. They can put your location in their system. They can check doors to make sure they are secure while you are away. Obtain these Zone checks by notifiying CMPD. Contacts are on our contact list from our home page for Community Officer Schwartz, and Westover CMPD Division Office.
Pick up the Madison Park Auto Decal to help make CMPD patrols easier. CMPD sees the auto cling they know the car belongs in our community. They are available at future HOA meetings for free to our residents.
