Play 60 KidZone

NFL Play 60 KidZone Unveiled at Freedom Park

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, along with the Carolina Panthers and United Way, unveiled the Play 60 KidZone playground at Freedom Park on Sept. 10. The Play 60 KidZone is a one-of-a-kind permanent play area featuring an obstacle course, a 40-yard dash with automated timing device, Play 60 Photo Booth, Pep Talk Station and other custom elements. Carolina Panthers Charities, along with an initial grant from the NFL in partnership with United Way, provided funding for the $275,000 project. Video

New Uptown Park Celebrates Legacy of Romare Bearden

 

Romare Bearden Park in the Third Ward section of uptown Charlotte is finally a reality. An official grand opening ceremony was held Friday, Aug. 30, through Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at the corner of Third and Church streets. The celebration of the hometown artists’ life and legacy marked the 102nd anniversary of his Sept. 2, birth. The event featured live music from acts such as Jo Dee Messina, dancers, activities for children, an art show and street performers. Video
