Neighborhood Matching Grants

Local Neighborhoods Receive Funding for Neighborhood Improvement Projects

The Neighborhood Matching Grants (NMG) program recently awarded neighborhood improvement project funding to:

  • Winterfield Neighborhood Association for a community safety project
  • Forest-Pawtuckett Neighborhood Association for an organizational development project
  • Steele-Oaks Braddock Green for security fencing
  • Becton Park at Lynton Place for community fencing
  • Biddleville-Smallwood Neighborhood Association for a garden irrigation project
  • Pine Valley Neighborhood Association for recreation renovations
  • Brawley Farms Homeowners Association for a community safety and beautification project

The NMG program also organized a bus tour for its Citywide Review Team members, a team that scores grants ranging from $10,001 to $25,000. The tour will take place on Sept. 20 and includes stops at several project locations, allowing the team to see the end result of NMG-approved projects.

NBS and Local Agencies Provide Services for Charlotte's Homeless

A team of representatives from the Charlotte Veterans Administration, City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and Charlotte Housing Authority recently traveled to Chicago to participate in a Rapid Results Acceleration Boot Camp.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Veterans Administration and 100,000 Homes Campaign, the boot camp was an interactive planning session for communities who have a large number of people who are chronically homeless. During the boot camp, Charlotte representatives were provided with information to develop goals for a 100-Day Action Plan that would help put Charlotte on a path to end chronic and veteran homelessness by the end of 2015. The representatives also left with plans to streamline administrative processes that move those who are homeless into housing. Ultimately, the team set a goal of housing 100 individuals in 100 days, with 20 percent of those housed being veterans.

The initiative is set to end on Sept. 6. As of Friday, Aug. 16, 96 homeless individuals have been moved into housing. For more information about the action plan, contact Mary Gaertner at mgaertner@charlottenc.gov.

Free Digital Communication Workshop for Neighborhoods

Reliable communication helps build strong neighborhoods.

The City of Charlotte and the Knight School of Communication at Queens University are collaborating to create digital resources that improve communication in local neighborhoods. The Knight School will offer a free digital communication workshop for neighborhood representatives this fall at Queens University’s Knight-Crane Convergence Laboratory.

You can help by completing a short, 10-minute survey to ensure the workshop curriculum meets neighborhood needs. Your participation will also ensure that your community receives a workshop invitation.

Please complete this survey by Sept. 9.
