Madison Park

In 1953, the Coliseum on Independence was under construction, Park Road Shopping Center was yet to be built and Park and Woodlawn were only two lane roads boarding a brand new subdivision called MADISON PARK. On September 20, 1953 the Charlotte Observer featured Charlotte Homebuilders Association FIRST ever Parade of Homes in connection with the city's observance of National Home Week. The Parade of Homes showcased 14 completely furnished model homes billed as "Homes do Tomorrow, Available Today" on Wentworth Place built by 12 local builders. The homes featured the "latest" trends in home building and design as well as air-conditioning, valance lighting, dishwashers, disposal units, and outdoor living areas. Looking for assistance with ideas of ways to promote this event both within the neighborhood and within the Charlotte area. I have lots of historical facts regarding the street and the neighborhood. Thinking a "walking tour" of the street with then and now pictures. Need help with graphic arts booklet layout featuring the history, old photos and newspaper articles, etc as well as contribution recognition.

I saw her materials last night from her research.  It is very interesting.   Those 12 builders went on to build most of the homes in the 3 phases of Madison Park over the next decade.

Wentworth Place is really the start of it all. 

I was thinking back to the day Pinewood did their garden wellness day.  They used their phones and scanned the QR codes to pull up info on the plants. 

 

Maybe something online those lines could be done for a walking tour on Wentworth.    Not my field, but might be a good way to present the historical portion of each home builder on a tour.
