Charlotte City Appoints Billy Maddalon to fill District 1 Vacancy

New District 1 Representative Billy Maddalon was sworn into office Tuesday, July 23 during an informal ceremony in the Charlotte City Clerk’s Office. City Council selected Maddalon to fill the District 1 seat during its business meeting on Monday, July 22. Maddalon was chosen from a list of 11 applicants to fill the vacancy, created by Mayor Patsy Kinsey’s recent appointment. To be considered for the seat, applicants had to reside in District 1, be at least 21 years-old, and registered to vote as a Democrat.

 

Maddalon is the managing owner of Unique Southern Estates and civic service includes serving as a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity National Board of Directors and co-chair of the Eastland Area Strategies Team. He has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communication from North Carolina State University.

 

Mayor Kinsey swore in Maddalon during a formal and public ceremony on Monday, July 29 in the Council Chamber at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. 


Airport Governance Information Portal

The City of Charlotte has created a dedicated page for all information related to airport management, state legislation and pending litigation regarding the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Those interested can also visit the GOV Channel YouTube page for video statements issued by the City of Charlotte related to the Airport.   


Animal Kneads Day

On Sunday, August 18, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control (AC&C) division will join the Great Harvest Bread Company to host the seventh Annual Animal Kneads Day fundraiser. Animal Kneads Day is AC&Cs largest fundraiser and is held to educate pet owners about the need to have pets spayed and neutered to control pet population. Anyone donating $10 will receive a fresh loaf of bread and 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to support the public spay & neuter fund, which is solely supported by private donations and grants which allows AC&C  to offer free surgeries in Mecklenburg County.
