NANCY BOWEN WIGGINS –Press Release

The purpose of this press release is to announce  Nancy B Wiggins’ candidacy for the Charlotte City Council at Large. Nancy is a long term Charlottean who is an active progressive within the community. As A City Councilwoman Wiggins wants to work diligently for the citizens of Charlotte to

  • Save the City of Charlotte’s control of  the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the intermodal facility that is being developed;
  • Make our  neighborhoods safer by encouraging dialogue among the neighbors and our municipal service providers- police, fire, medic and infrastructure services;
  • Insure that we can maintain an adequate supply of affordable housing for our residents;
  • Support the continued  development of a  reliable 21st century transit system; and,
  • Support the growth of a stronger economic base that includes commerce, education, the arts, and sports entertainment.

 

CHARLOTTE ROOTS

  • Grew up in Charlotte  [moved here  in 1949];
  • Graduated from Myers Park High School in 1966;
  • Earned a   Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Texas-Arlington.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

  • Is CEO of  Nancy Wiggins Commercial Real Estate serving clients both in the Carolinas and abroad ;
  • Has been a Lecturer & Adjunct Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Winthrop University, Johnson C. Smith University and Queens University.

PUBLIC SERVICE

  • Served as a member of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Commission 1994-1999 and the Mecklenburg County Recycling Committee.
  • Has worked on a number of local affordable housing projects
  •  Served as a Trustee for the Global Housing Foundation affiliated with the United Nations.
  • Has been an active member of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce & CRCBR.
  •  Was honored as a Star by the NC Democratic Women having been nominated by the Mecklenburg County Democratic Women in 2011.
