City of Charlotte Website for Candidate Information and Requests

After the official opening of the elections filing period on Friday, July 5, the City of Charlotte began using Candidates.CharlotteNC.gov as a portal for all information resulting from election-related requests to City staff.

With a goal of openness and impartiality, the site serves as a conduit to responses from all City candidate requests as well as information from the candidate briefing packet, which includes the responsibilities of Mayor and Council, rules about the crown logo on campaign signage, an organizational chart, and other helpful documents.

Due to processes already in-place for expediting fulfillment of public information requests, candidates for Mayor or City Council are encouraged to contact Corporate Communications & Marketing rather than requesting information from individual departments or staff. City candidates are also asked to be as specific as possible and include the following:

  • Name
  • Date of request
  • Contact information (email, phone, fax)
  • A brief description of request
  • The date by which the information is needed

To make a request, the above information should be sent to corporatecommunications@charlottenc.gov or candidates may call 704-336-2396.

Visit Candidates.CharlotteNC.gov to learn more.

Keep Your Pet Safe During Summer

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control Division (AC&C) is reminding pet owners to be mindful how extreme temperatures affect your pets as the dog days of summer roll through our region.

AC&C advises pet owners to secure pets in an area of their home where they feel safe and secure. This will help avoid unnecessary stress on your pet or possible injury and accidental escape.  Here are a few more things to keep in mind:

  • Heat and humidity can cause dehydration and heatstroke:
  • ??‹??‹Signs of dehydration: panting, drooling, a dry mouth, gums and nose, reduced skim elasticity, reduced capillary refill time and sunken eyes.
  • Signs of heatstroke: raised body temperature, heavy panting, drooling, vocalization, glazed eyes, rapid heartbeat, restlessness, excessive thirst, lethargy, fever, dizziness, vomiting, bright red tongue, and collapse.
  • Mosquitoes cause heartworms in dogs and cats if they are not protected. Heartworms are very hard to treat and are potentially lethal. To protect your pet from heartworms be sure to get the monthly heartworm preventative from your vet.
  • Ticks and fleas can infest your dog very quickly and if they are not eliminated they can cause dehydration and loss of weight.
  • Dog and cat feet are very sensitive to hot pavement.
