If anyone is interested in doing Tree Banding this fall through a Matching Grant with the City of Charlotte let us know and we might do one. I have already been approached by two residents that thought we needed to do something. My tree had them for the first time ever this spring and they were nasty. You could not walk out the front door for about 2 weeks without having worms all over you. I had already planned to ban my tree next fall.
If you are interested post here or send yes with you info to MadisonParkhoa@hotmail.com.
Based on the feedback we might move forward with a small grant. I think if my memory is correct $3000 is the max amount for one of these. Might be even less, but seems $3000 was it in past years.
I have heard of neighborhoods doing one of these grants in two different ways. Hiring someone to do them all, or by doing them with volunteer match. Volunteer Match is through volunteers banding the trees on private property at the residents requests. If we did that type match each hour per person volunteered toward the project would pay toward the grant match 20.85 cents an hour.
Again provide some feedback. If there is not that many interested then if people wish to do it they can just do it on their own. If we have enough interest we can certainly consider doing this Canker Worm Banding Tree Grant. Our area is huge so we would need to hear from those with trees that need banding to take stock of how much in supplies we would need.
This grant would start writing in August with the appplication due in Mid Sept. 2013.
