The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department plans a memorial playground at Park Road Park in memory of children and teachers killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Conn.
Existing equipment at Park Road Park will be replaced by new equipment.
Want to help?
 • Hats Off to Parks will be 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May 10 at Freedom Park, 1900 East Blvd., Charlotte. Tickets are $50. Buy a ticket or make a donation online at www.partnersforparks.org. • Also visit http://charmeck.org/mecklenburg/county/ParkandRec/Pages/default.aspx. If you cannot attend but want to help the playground effort, financial donations, in-kind donations of materials and volunteer labor also will be needed. A playground planned for Park Road Park in the SouthPark area will be built later this year in memory of children and teachers killed in the December shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Proceeds from the third annual Hats Off to Parks luncheon, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May 10 at Freedom Park in Charlotte, will go toward the playground.
In previous years, the event helped fund a playground in Lincoln Heights and improvements to Clarks Creek Nature Preserve.

We need your help! The Hats Off to Parks funds are raised through sponsorships, ticket sales and our Silent Auction. The event is a luncheon held at Freedom Park. It’s themed as an Old Fashion Garden Party with the women in Dresses and Hats and some men have been known to wear their seersucker suits…and of course their hats. There is great food, music and lots of FUN supporting a wonderful cause.

Can you please help us solicit Sponsorships and ticket sales?  One way to do so is to agree to be a Table Captain. A Table Captain takes ownership of selling 8 seats at their table. In other words they promise to either sell enough tickets to fill their table or make up the cost of a table if the tickets are not sold. They do this by inviting friends, family, co-workers, and business acquaintances to support the event.  Each ticket sells for $50.00. There are also other sponsorship opportunities provided to you along with this letter. The donations will be accepted by the Partners for Parks Foundation; a 501 C 3 organization.  Please help us spread the word and raise the funds needed for this special playground. If you decide you want to help please contact me for additional information. Thanks in advance for any support you can give us!!
