Click on the link above to see roundabouts info.  This is probably one of the few options for this interesection at Wedgewood Drive and Seneca Place should neighbors be in favor.

Criteria/Policy (effective 10/23/06)  Multi-way stops

  • Streets with 600+ vehicles per day, allow both three- and four-way multi-way stops.
  • Multi-way stops must be removed from streets with less than 2500 vehicles per day if speed humps are installed.
  • Speed humps and multi-way stops are only permitted on streets between 1000-2500 vehicles if the street already has multi-way stops, there is a continued, documented speeding problem, and has gaps between multi-way stops greater than 600 feet.  Speed humps maybe installed in these gaps to further calm the street.
  • The street must have a speed limit of 25 - 30 mph, and documented speeding problem of 5+ mph over the posted speed limit.

Some of you had suggested multi way stops at Seneca Place and Wedgewood Drive.  CDOT policy only allows for speed humps to be added where all stops are already in place.   It does not work in reverse meaning if you have humps in place you cannot add All Stops.  So that solution based on current CDOT policy is not allowed.    We discovered this years ago when Farmbrook Drive was having issues with speeding.

Years ago we ran into the same issue with all stops.  The minimum traffic count was 1000.   CDOT would not budge on that number, but after years of going back and forth CDOT did reduce the traffic counts for all stops to 600, after Council voted to allow the reduced traffic counts.

If you like the idea of doing something to improve this intersection for pedestrians and safety send us an e-mail to MadisonParkhoa@hotmail.com.  Thanks to those of you that have already sent us feedback.   Plans are to gather feedback and then take this feedback to CDOT.

Just as a followup to what Marty said, Seneca Pl. has between 3000 and 4000 vehicles/day, depending on the location.  That would put it over the upper traffic limit of having a combination of multi-way stops and speed humps.
