I attended the Pinewood Elementary Partners meeting and learned the school still has needs. They have an entire typewritten page of students waiting to have mentors. If you can help with this task contact the school at once. Just let the Principal know at trish.sexton@cms.k12.nc.us.
They also have some upcoming needs, specifically funding for the 5th grade field trips. Being a title 1 school many of their students come from families without a high economic means. They wish for each of their students to be able to participate, in their field trip to Camp Thunderbird, located nearby on Lake Wylie. If any of you would be willing to sponsor a child through a donation of $31.00, the school would be grateful for making this opportunity possible for everyone in the 5th grade. The amount is tax-deductible the schools tax identification number is 56-1684421.
The 5th graders are working on their own Lowe’s $5000 grant to obtain Rain Barrels so they can water their school gardens. The barrels come with an irrigation system that will help get the water to the gardens from the barrels. This is important as CMS does not wish to pay for water over the summer holidays for the school gardens.
The Schools Career Fair is March 14th, 2012. They need volunteers to interview students for jobs. Anyone with HR experience would be extremely helpful. They will have a guide sheet for volunteers to follow, so anyone really could help with this task. Once again contact the school if you can help.
Mentors and End of Grade testing volunteers will be needed for April and May 2012.
Also if you own a business and can provide lunch for their summer camp for up to 100 students let the school know at once. Dates of this years Free Summer Camp are June 18-21 & 25-28.
