USPS Carrier - Problem

Posted in: Madison Park

I'm new here so I apologize if anyone has posted about this.

I have been having trouble with the USPS carrier walking through my front landscaping.  About 2 years ago I mentioned it to one carrier and as he was walking down the hill through my landscaping, he told me to put up a note.  I am certain that I should NOT have had to do that and that using the steps instead of the landscape is common courtesy. But I did put up a note and it seemed to alleviate the problem for a while.  (By the way, the steps are right NEXT to the landscaping.)

Well, the note got old and wore off.  I have recently caught 2 separate carriers using the landscaping instead of the steps.  I asked BOTH of them to please use the steps and both told me to put up a note.  I recently caught a carrier in mid landscape and asked him to please use the steps.  He said "no problem" then turned to finish walking through the landscaping.  So I actually did have to yell at him to go back up and use the steps properly.

The next day I moved a flower pot in front of where they'd step to go into the bushes and it seemed to deter.  Over the last 2 weeks, I have redone my front landscaping to create terraces and planted more plants to help convey the message to the postal carrier that it is not a walk way.

I was speaking to a neighbor this weekend on the opposite street as me and she said that the carriers walk in their landscaping all the time as well.

Is this a problem in our neighborhood?  Am I the only one?  Has anyone approached the USPS about this?

Its really frustrating.

I'm open to any thoughts or assistance.

Thanks!

Part of the problem is they keep changing carriers.  You can call the station over off Old Pineville Road and report it..but I have had other say they were told to put up a note even by the managers.

I am glad they come to the door and we don't have to go to the street to pick up our mail from a street box.

I have several steps that go up to my porch, and I have noticed some carriers will go through the landscape next to the porch to reach the box.

I have a neighbor that does not even let them walk on her grass.  She makes them exit back down the sidewalk to the driveway.   I can see why they would not wish to do this because it lengthens their route and day.  I assume that is one reason they choose to go through the landscape and avoid the steps.  Less wear and tear on their bodies.

I would just try the note thing again since it worked in the past and they have told you this.   I recall one time my neighbors note that the carrier used in their trays ended up at my house.  It was the divide paper for the sort and it stated stay off the grass at her address.  Somehow it accidently ended up in my box.

I really wish they would just get the correct mail in the correct boxes.  I always end up with someone else's mail, and sometimes it isn't even the correct street.
