I'm new here so I apologize if anyone has posted about this.
I have been having trouble with the USPS carrier walking through my front landscaping. About 2 years ago I mentioned it to one carrier and as he was walking down the hill through my landscaping, he told me to put up a note. I am certain that I should NOT have had to do that and that using the steps instead of the landscape is common courtesy. But I did put up a note and it seemed to alleviate the problem for a while. (By the way, the steps are right NEXT to the landscaping.)
Well, the note got old and wore off. I have recently caught 2 separate carriers using the landscaping instead of the steps. I asked BOTH of them to please use the steps and both told me to put up a note. I recently caught a carrier in mid landscape and asked him to please use the steps. He said "no problem" then turned to finish walking through the landscaping. So I actually did have to yell at him to go back up and use the steps properly.
The next day I moved a flower pot in front of where they'd step to go into the bushes and it seemed to deter. Over the last 2 weeks, I have redone my front landscaping to create terraces and planted more plants to help convey the message to the postal carrier that it is not a walk way.
I was speaking to a neighbor this weekend on the opposite street as me and she said that the carriers walk in their landscaping all the time as well.
Is this a problem in our neighborhood? Am I the only one? Has anyone approached the USPS about this?
Its really frustrating.
I'm open to any thoughts or assistance.
Thanks!
