This was the intial story on the project. The land actually was always part of the Park and Rec Master Plan. You use to could see it on Charmeck.org. Not sure if it still is on there or not...but it contained parking, picnic shelters and more. People have been using the land illegally for decades.
I thought this was all a bit odd when I was contacted by the editor on this first story. because after 9/11 there was talk that the Greenway would have to go on opposite side of creek and that a 20 foot high fence would need to go up to protect the plant. Guess all those fears have gone away.
It will be nice once the Greenway is complete to have this side connect to something and then have the Queens side connect to the Greenway via what they are calling mini greenways. The Queens side will be complete by 2015 per their contract with the county. I attended several Park And Rec advisory meetings a few years ago on the land and Queens Sports Complex.
As far as Wensley they have always had a planned greenway connection from the dead end of their street.
There is a lot of widelife still in the woods on the CMUD land so hopefully the animals will not be ran out. They cetainly got the raw end of the deal on the Queens side. With the fences and continued removal of trees.
I did not see the letter but I heard from our board member Ken Davis that residents along Farmbrook recieved a letter inviting them to the meeting.
I have also spoken to CMPD and they plan to ride the trails on their mtn bikes.
I had asked if CMPD if they had any updates or news prior to our meeting this week and they did not...so glad to see some answers. |
