If you are interested in donating soaps and shampoos for homeless children in our community that attend our neighborhood schools, there will be a collection box at the next homeowners association meeting.  I will be taking the collection to A Child's Place directly after the meeting in Septmeber.  They put to use every item donated.  They work with each school in making sure the homeless kids have access to these supplies.

See the attached article in the Charlotte Observer, http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/09/04/2577918/running-a-clean-campaign.html.

Thank you for any donation. It does not have to be fancy or expensive, dollar store stuff will do. It can make all the difference to a little kid.

I will make mention on our meeting reminder next week that you are going to collect items.

thanks

Thanks, Marty. I learned a lot about the homeless children population in our area by volunteering at the Loaves and Fishes Food Bank that is held at two nearby churches.  Sometmes I have been able to talk to the families while they waited to receive the once a month grocery basket, and when asked, they quietly said they atteded Pinewood or, since it was last year, - Smith.  I have lawys fond these children to be very courteous and grateful for whatever they are getting. And I guarantee you they come for every race, creed, and life happanstance. They will be grateful for any soaps, shampooes, toothpaste or toothbrushes they get. This is not a normal part of the food pantry items that are given.

Even those little hotel soaps that hang around in the back of our closets are appreciated.

I just wanted to thank all the folks that so kindly gave me soap and hygene products in the last couople of  months for A Child's Place. You have been so generous. We often just take something like this for granted, but it is a wonderful thing. Even years ago, when I worked in two local schools, I remember kids that did not have clean clothes, or clean hair or bodies at the schools I taught. We kindly and quietly took them away and performed several "spa day rescues" right there at the school, and had them back in the classroom in a juffy with clean clothes, washed hair and faces. What a difference it makes. Suddently they smile. And that was beforeA Child's Place. So thank you to the folks that have participated in the donations. I will make another run on Friday downtown to the headquarters. You will make a lot of kids happy.
