Pinewood Partners!!!! Happy new school year! We have BIG plans for the 2011-2012 year and would like to continue the partnership that we have with you. Thank you for all of your efforts last year. Due to your involvement, we made tremendous strides in student achievement. A few highlights from last school year. WE.... Increased student proficiency in math by 9.7 percent- over 80 % of our students passed the math test!!!! Increased student proficiency in science by 25.8 percent. Increased reading by 3.8 percent Our overall total school composite went up by 9.9 percent. Best news of all... WE ARE A SCHOOL OF HIGH GROWTH!!!!! As you can see from the numbers, we are very pleased with this progress, but still have work to do- especially in literacy. We have a great foundation in place and I know that we will continue to see increases in this area as well. In addition, due to your efforts- we were able to set up a technology fund for our PTA from matching donations that we received from your volunteer work have our FIRST CAREER FAIR have a wonderful STAFF RETREAT send 75 students to a TWO WEEK FREE CAMP- students went BOWLING and loved every minute. provide students with MEALS and SNACKS during the camp time have students participate in a SCHOLARSHIP writing contest have families enjoy the MADISON NIGHT OUT event Additionally, Staff enjoyed goodies at Valentine's Day and received SUPPLIES, Students received many school supplies throughout the year The staff enjoyed lunches and TREATS from many of you!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!

School Needs

1. Fall Festival- October 22- We are looking for donations of drinks, chips, sodas and small prizes. This is a great community building event for our families and partners!!! We use PTA funds to provide a bouncer house and the teachers create games. We normally go to local businesses to ask for support for this event. Let me know if you have any ideas. 2. Staff Appreciation- Each month we have a school-wide professional development session. Our focus is literacy! We have planned a wonderful program and would like to have refreshments for these meetings since they will be after the regular school day and a little longer. It doesn't have to be big items- They love chips, sodas, chocolate, candy, ice cream, really any FOOD. If you would like to provide refreshments for a meeting, please let me know. It is my goal to have refreshments at one meeting a month. Also, I am looking for small incentives for the staff. Staff morale has a direct impact on student achievement. WE HAVE THE BEST TEAM in CMS and I would like to show appreciation for their hard work. I have a limited budget so I am not able to purchase gift certificates and small treats. Please let me know if you have any ideas or are able to support. We have 85 staff members.

I'll be happy to provide one meeting's worth of goodies with a couple of other Madison Park Neighbors. Perhaps at our next next Neighborhood Association Meeting we can discuss how to organize this for the year so it is not a physical and financial burden for any one person. I might even make those snacks HEALTHY,Smile too!

Thanks Ellen....

Hopefully we will find a few residents that will join in your effort.
