Morning,

Please share this info with your neighbors about Runnymede.

Thank you for the work you are doing to keep your neighbors informed.

Regards,

Andy Dulin

Andy,

Per our conversation, CMUD has been coordinating with NCDOT, CDOT, CFD, and Medic on a repair and traffic control plan for Runnymede.    Runnymede is actually owned by NCDOT so they have the lead in determining the extent of the actual repairs.

Below is a brief time line of what will be going on out there for the next week based on what I know today:

Friday (today)  - Begin removal of trees along the work zone.

Monday night  – City Council consideration of the repair contract;  Issuance of the road closure notice and deployment of road message boards would happen after the approval.

Tuesday night – Road closure to begin at 9pm.

Wednesday morning – Work to begin on the road repair and the pipe line (dependent on pipe being received from the supplier).

Week of June 27 – Work complete.

I have attached a copy of the proposed road closure notice that would be distributed as soon as City Council approves the agenda item on Monday night.   Basically we would close Runnymede on Tuesday night for about 2 weeks.  The detour is intended to have Sharon, Fairview, and Park Roads as the primary route.

Hopefully we can complete the work faster than two weeks but until we remove the existing asphalt it’s difficult to know exactly what needs to be done with the dirt under the road.

All of the agencies we’ve worked with (included the assisted living center) have concurred with this approach and NCDOT prefers it to trying to maintain 1 or 2 lanes of active traffic and prolonging the repair an additional two weeks.

As I mentioned to you, if you would like to meet with someone out there at the site for further discussion on the plan, Chuck Bliss (704-995-7518)  will be our point person on the project and I will be available on Wednesday when I get back in the office.

Let me know if you need any additional information.    Thanks.

Proposed Closure from June 14, 2011 to July 1st, 2011

Charlotte Department of Transportation

Road Closure Notice

Runnymede Lane

Communicated: June 13, 2011

Closure dates: June 14, 2011 to July 1, 2011

Runnymede Lane between Barclay Downs Drive and Michael Baker Place will close on Tuesday, June 14 at 9:00 p.m. and will re-open on Friday, July 1 at 6:00 a.m. This closure is necessary for replacement of the roadway damaged by last week’s water main break and roadway washout. NCDOT maintains Runnymede Lane and has agreed to the closure to expedite repairs. Traffic can detour around the closure using Park Road, Fairview Road and Sharon Road.

No through access will be allowed. Myers Park High School access will be from Colony Road.

CATS buses WILL BE affected.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
