We are experiencing another increase in residential burglaries where copper is being taken from vacant houses. It is possible that these individuals are working at any time during the week and weekend. They may appear to be construction/contractors who are working on a vacant house. If you have vacant houses on your street, please keep an eye out for suspicious activity and call 911. Copper thefts cause thousands of dollars of damage and are potentially dangerous when the suspects take copper leaving natural gas to run free.
Additionally, there has also been an increase in the number of storage sheds that are being targetted for tools and lawn equipment. Please secure your sheds and storage units to prevent these types of break-ins. Again, please report suspicious activity to 911. We can then determine if there is a crime in progress and identify possible suspects.
If you have information about a person you believe is "scrapping" stolen metals you can call Crime Stoppers with information at 704-334-1600 or to text a crime tip to Crime Stoppers, start your text message with the code "TIP372" and then the tip information you would like the police to investigate. Send this message to CRIMES (274637).
