Good afternoon, Mr. Doss –
I work with the Therapeutic Recreation Section of Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Dept. We are working on starting a small, local grower-to-table farmers’ market – called “Garden 2 You” – at the Marion Diehl Recreation Center, to provide fresh, local produce for patrons of MDC and the Senior Center; and for the surrounding neighborhood. Some of the produce and plants at the market will be grown by participants in the Gifted Gardeners class for adults with disabilities.
Funds raised by the Garden 2 You market will benefit the TR Summer Day Camp Scholarship Fund, through the Partners for Parks Foundation. I am trying to make contact with gardeners in our community, to see if they will be interested is supporting this effort by donating produce or plants for the market – the first planned date is an “attention getter” on May 27, and the full market will begin in the early fall. We are also seeking a volunteer to act as a market manager.
