CMS officials say there are no plans to put any of the closed schools up for sale. Should the district change its mind, state law says Mecklenburg County would have the right of first refusal on buying the property at a price negotiated by the school board.
Here's the latest list of proposals for the closed sites:
Amay James Pre-K: to be demolished, probably summer of 2011.
Pawtuckett Elementary: to be demolished, probably summer of 2011.
Villa Heights Elementary: Held in reserve or made available for other uses.
Davidson IB Middle: demolished or made available to others.
Smith K-8: part of site demolished; balance held in reserve or made available for other uses.
Bishop Spaugh Middle: held in reserve or made available for other uses.
John Taylor Williams Middle: held in reserve or made available for other uses.
Wilson: demolished, probably summer of 2011.
Lincoln Heights: held in reserve, with some administrative use of the building already in place.
Oakhurst: held in reserve or made available for other uses.
Irwin Avenue Elementary: new home for Villa Heights Academic Center program, a half-county magnet.
