If you are going to be away from home for an extended period of time, our department offers “zone checks” of
your property. Officers on patrol have access to a database that includes addresses of people who are out of
town. When not assigned to a call for service, the officers can access this list and go to the homes and check that
they are secure. We cannot guarantee a check daily or at certain times of day, but it does help draw officers to
your neighborhood, you street, and of course your home.
If you would like this service, please contact us with the following information: your name, your address, the
dates you will be gone, and a contact number where you can be reached while gone.
The best way to notify us that you will be gone is to email us the information. You can contact Westover at jhulsey@cmpd.org subject line zone check request.   Do not wait until the night before you are leaving to notify us. The data has to be collected and entered into the
database. Please contact us at least 2 days ahead of your departure. Conversely, please do not notify us weeks
ahead of time."
