Dear Friends of Susan Burgess,
We know that everyone wants to reach out to support Susan and her family at
this time. Those of us who have been admirers of her years of dedicated
public service want to ensure that her tradition of public services lives
on.
We are establishing a lasting legacy in her honor, in the City she loved and
served, with the Susan M Burgess Fellowship in Public Administration at UNC
Charlotte. This will be an endowed fellowship, given annually to help a
master¹s student become the kind of servant-leader that Susan personifies.
It is particularly fitting that the fellowship be created at UNC Charlotte
because so many non-profit administrators, City, County and police staff
have graduated from this program.
We are asking friends and supporters of Susan to contribute toward the
endowment through the UNC Charlotte Foundation. All gifts are fully tax
deductible.
Susan herself has always been financially generous to her community
believing that “to those to whom much is given, much is expected.”
Susan was greatly moved by the idea of a fellowship in her name when she was
told about it. Even before she served on the school board, she believed in
the importance of helping men and women find ways to pay for an advanced
education when they chose to pursue it.
Can you imagine a more fitting tribute to a woman who has given so much of
her time and energy to public service than to enable others to follow in her
footsteps? Please help make that happen.
