Our Community Needs You
Now More Than Ever!
Mecklenburg County is facing historic budget shortfalls.
The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department was hit especially hard. With less people on staff and the same number of parks and centers to maintain, we need your help. This is an opportunity for individuals who take pride in their neighborhood parks and recreation centers to rally together. With your support we can continue to provide the high level of service that the citizens of Mecklenburg County have come to know and deserve.
MCPRD Volunteer Services is initiating a few new and updated volunteer positions/opportunities.
The positions/opportunities are:
- Recreation Buddies
- Park Partners
- Park Ambassadors
*Rec Buddies will support Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department staff in providing quality recreation and leisure services to the community. Volunteers will assist staff with the implementation of a broad range of activities including but not limited to:
- Center Programs
- After School Programs
- Summer Programs
- Athletic Activities
- Special Events
- Building and Ground Maintenance.
- Supplementing administrative service functions.
- Customer Service
- Office Assistance
- Data Entry
*Park Partners will support Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department staff with the implementation of a broad range of beautification and maintenance projects in our Parks and on our Greenways.
- Park and Greenway Adoptions: The adoption program offers an opportunity for Businesses, Neighborhood Associations, Churches, Schools, Civic Clubs and other organizations to take ownership of a specific property.
- Periodic Projects: This is the option for the group that wants to come out on a regular basis but cannot commit to a monthly project.
- Unsupervised Group Projects. This option is great for Neighborhood Associations, Scouts, Schools, Summer Camps and Churches. Groups come out on their own to do trash pickups and light park maintenance.
*Park Ambassadors are our highest level of volunteering. Volunteers in this position will act as a department’s ambassador to the patrons in the parks and on our greenways. This position enhances the Departments ability to provide the highest level of customer service to our park patrons.
