Mecklenburg County Health Department
H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu)

The holidays are here and with them bring parties and visits with family and friends. Unfortunately, flu-causing germs may show up as uninvited guests. In light of the H1N1 pandemic, we urge you take precautions to stay healthy this holiday season.

  1. Get the recommended H1N1 vaccine. Convenient appointments are available now and can be made online at www.meckhealth.org/h1n1 or by calling (704) 432-5100.
  2. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  3. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  5. If you get sick with flu, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from making them sick. Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  6. Keep frequently touched common surfaces clean.
  7. Get the recommended seasonal flu vaccine when it becomes available.
  8. Maintain a healthy lifestyle through rest, diet, exercise and relaxation.
