It's going to be a fun event, lots of door prizes, refreshments, and it's only $10 to participate. The Tampa Police Department has lost twenty-seven officers in the line of duty, the first being Officer John McCormick, murdered on September 26, 1895. The most recent death occurred on August 19, 2009, when Corporal Michael J. Roberts was killed by a felony suspect. On December 1, 1997, a lasting monument was dedicated to our fallen heroes at the entrance to Tampa Police Headquarters building at 411 N. Franklin Street, in downtown Tampa. This was made possible by the many donations from the community and our sponsors. The money raised from this year’s event will go towards our museum, the Tampa Police Scholarship Program, Explorer Program, Tampa Police Honor Guard and the Police Unity Tour. The Tampa Police Memorial Fund is a non-profit, 501C(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible.
In cooperation with the City of Tampa and in memory of the fallen officers the men and women of the Tampa Police Department are proud to present and dedicate the 15th Annual Tampa Police Memorial 5K/1Mile Walk to Corporal Michael J. Roberts.
This year’s event will be held at Lykes Gaslight Park in front of police headquarters. We have continued chip timing for the 5K event only. Awards for the sworn law enforcement and active military divisions are available in the 5K event only. We have continued the award for the most participation in the Neighborwatch Program. Please join Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, Tampa Police Chief Stephen Hogue, and several hundred men and women from law enforcement and military for the guaranteed fun event.
