BOARD NOMINATION

Posted in: Laurel Hill

I do not feel there is a need to ask for Board member nominations because the HOA letter seemed as if it endorsed a nominee.  Also, the proxy with nominations have already been mailed to homes.  Maybe if there was a nomination announcement on the board at the front entrance than it would have given owners ample time with nominations therefore having an opportunity to be on the proxy.

I have an issue with "anonymous" posts in the first place. If you have the time to post, then have the courtesy to use your name.

The HOA sent out a letter INFORMING the members dated December 19th the members of the HOA who had put their name forward to be considered for the open board seat. It was NOT an indorsement of the two names. If that were the case, there would not have been two names, on the letter but one, since there was only one seat opened. It CLEARLY stated that the letter was to inform people who was running. There were two individuals who made that choice, one was myself (Kelly Digby), the other was Mr. Morris Rivers (who won by the way, Congratulations!). As Brian Newsome our Board President said in a December 17th letter "Please consider volunteering for our community...each of us has special talents!"

If you read your convenant documents it gives times frames for the Board to announce meetings, votes that are to be taken and announcement of the upcoming budgets etc.  I know we recieved and earlier letter advising us of an opening on the Board, that's when I put my name in the hat to run for the opening. Furthermore, there was a "write-in" section on the ballot/proxy that enabled you to write in a name you preferred over the two that had asked to have their names officially on the ballot.

Having an announcement on the front of the neighborhood is there for everyone who drives into the neighborhood to see, I'm uncomfortable with that suggestion, since there is already a working process in place, set forth in the convenant and by-laws.

If you were not at the meeting, shame on you, if you were at the meeting then you saw that the meeting lacked a quorum and "business" could not be conducted because of the lack of a quorum. Out of 144 homes there were 23 or so represented that is a paltry turn-out and disconcerting to me personally. As with everything else in a free society, if people are not willing to actively participate in the process, then they need to quit complaining about the outcome.
