Sandy Shale Burglary on 12/12/06

Posted in: Maryland Pebble at Silverado
Hello,

I'd like to share with all of you details about our first home burglary. My wife and kids left that morning at around 8 am. I left at precisely 8:22 a.m. I work right down Pebble. At 11:18, I left work and got home around 6 minutes later. When I opened the garage door, the box containing our brand new 42'' flat screen TV was in the middle of the garage. We had not yet taken the TV out of the box so I knew something was very wrong and rushed inside. I then noticed the following:
-the home theater system I had also purchased on Saturday was missing
-our kitchen window and sliding glass door were opened
-the drawers in our bedroom and my wife's jewelry box were ransacked and jewelry stolen.
-all the windows outside the house had signs that someone was trying to take the screens off; our front window has two small handprints on it indicating that young teenagers may be involved.
The police did not arrive until 6pm that night and they sent a cadet not a sworn police officer. It was her opinion that the break in was done by ''tweekers'' looking for items to pawn to fuel their habit. We filed a report and that was that. I speculated that someone may have followed me from where I purchased the TV or maybe someone in the neighborhood just got lucky. I made every effort to conceal the TV when I brought it home.
On Friday, 12/15, my wife spoke to a woman and her husband, a Henderson police officer, who were burglarized on 12/14. They live across the street from the post office on Pollock and Mainland. The thieves made off with a police issued 9mm, a police computer, a safe, and valuable jewelry. The neighbor across the street saw the whole thing and described the thieves as 2 black males and 2 black females driving a silver Dodge Magnum with California plates (having women involved may explain the 2 smaller hand prints on our windows). They go around various neighborhoods, and knock on people's doors. Those that have no one home and no alarm system are burglarized. And that neighbor failed to call 911 right away as she feared the thieves would retaliate against her (??). My wife and a neighbor down the street did remember seeing that particular make and model vehicle in the area a couple days before, but thought nothing of it.
I have already spoken to many of the neighbors around us and my wife and I have become increasingly aware of who's in our neighborhood. We've also installed a security system and purchased Montacor the Tiger from Sigfried and Roy. There has been talk of a neighborhood watch for our area, but we will all need to be involved in some direct or indirect way. My family and I have only been here for 3 months so it has been a bit disheartening that this occured, but we have learned from it.
Please attend the next HOA meeting so we can all discuss our options and share with each other any other suspicious activities that are going on.

Thank you and Happy Holidays to you all.
