The primary topic for the meeting was understanding how to cope with the recent burglaries in our area.
Thanks to all the volunteers that help us get the show on the road. Special thanks to Michelle and Bayli Roeder for supplying the bottled water, coffee and cookies and setting up the audio and visual equipment.
Thanks to the volunteers that assisted the church during vaccinations.
Thanks to Mary Ann Marger for transferring the membership list into a format that makes it easier to update and paste into our newsletter.
Thanks to Gordon Norton and Bill Oliver for their hours spent in tending to the church grounds.
Special recognition to Sandy Bozeman for her years of efforts in improving our community. We decreed August 18th as Sandy Bozeman Day in our neighbor hood and honored her with a plaque.
Thanks to the deliverers of our newsletter that announces the meeting agenda and meeting information.
Thanks to Herb Polson for attending and providing answers to attendee questions.
Treasurer David Nissley announced that we have over $1700 in collections from memberships. We are making some changes to the membership to help David with easier book keeping. I had announced to the group that we were accepting 2010 dues, but after the meeting, I was corrected by David that this would cause too much confusion. My apologies for the statement and that it should read as follows:
$10 memberships are available for 2009 but will expire on December 31, 2009. All memberships for 2010 will be accepted January 1, 2010.
There were 4 families that paid dues last night, so to you I greatly apologize for my error. Please call me or e..mail with how you wish us to handle this.
Officer Mark Williams encouraged us to develop a Crime Watch Group and offered to provide home inspections to determine your homes safety. I would like to beef up this effort and appoint a group that develops a means of communicating fast and effective when alerts of suspicious behavior is known.
Representatives from ADT and Brinks were in attendance and distributed literature on ways for you to determine how safe your home is. In addition, we watched an informative video that showed indept details on areas to look at in securing your home.
Water Restrictions have changed as of July 1, and are in effect until August 31, 2009. Changes include your ability to wash your car once a week using a nozzled hose, and pressure washing can resume. Irrigation restrictions remain the same.
Raytheon update; a three day court date is set for September 22-24 to determine litigation. I anticpate the newspaper will be covering this story, and provide for means of staying current. Full reports are available at http://www.doh.state.fl.us/environment/medicie/SUPERFUND/pha.htm
To date Florida DOH/ATSDR found:
1. Use of private irrigation well water is not a public health threat
2. Consumption of homegrown fruit and vegetables irrigated with groundwater is not a public health threat
3. None of the main ground water chemicals associated with Raytheon were in air of nearby buildings
4. It is unlikely vapors from ground water are entering nearby buildings
The last meeting of the year is a proposed block party. We will be working on the process. Early designs call for blocking a section of Follow Thru Rd so we will get permission from residence to ensure that is acceptable. The proposed date is November, prior to Thanksgiving week. The consensus from last night is that it should be held on a Friday or Saturday. Discussions have started with a 17 piece Big Band for entertainment. We are leaning to a bring a dish format, but we will provide condiments and perhaps some munchies. We could also set up some grills if you want to showcase your grilling talents. Maybe a few contests? Such as, Free Throw shooting contest, horseshoes, dance with the stars, best grilled food, best side dish, best dessert, most unusual dish, best salsa, or sauce, any home brewed beer or wine...okay moonshine if someone has that knowledge. Other ideas include, a kids hot dog eating contest, a hot pepper eating contest.
Your ideas are welcome, we have a few months to prepare..............
Regards
