What Is Can? The Computer Access to Neighborhoods(CAN) Partnership is a public/private venture to increase student achievement, engage the public, and provide families with greater access to technology within their neighborhoods.

Why was the project established? After recognizing that almost half of the students in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods were failing the state's computer-competency test, the school district and community joined together to provide one-on-one tutorials for students in grades eight through 12.

How was the project made possible? The project is the result of a collaborative effort between partners such as the City of Charlotte (Neighborhood Matching Grant program), Mecklenburg County, local community colleges, institutions of higher eduation, businesses, and community organizations. More than 23 sponsoring private, public, and nonprofit organizations helped make the project possible. - D.A.A.
