PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Greetings!

It?’s been a little over a month since new officers were designated to manage the Hickory Hollow Association. Here?’s what we have done and hope to do.

The officers have been working on reorganizing the Association. The Neighborhood Watch program is being developed. We are aggressively trying to collect the unpaid Association fees. Additionally, we have reduced the cost of berm maintenance, cleaned up the front entrance, and enlisted City services to improve property maintenance on the south end. Also, we decided to move the June barbecue to August. See below for details.

We recently visited all the homes in the community and provided information on the Association plans, plus copies of the By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation. You should have received this as your home was visited. Let me know if you did not receive the information.

President - Phil: I've designated Sunday morning's as my time to work on Association projects and planning. The rest of the week, I will use to make contacts and acquire information. It's my intention to stay focused on all of our current projects and actively seeks ideas for improvements that will benefit the community. I will always seek to assist with your projects and help find the resources to help us meet our goals. I'm not the "boss", I'm just the guy who will do his best to solve issues and create opportunities.

Yearly Fees - We need the basic fee to be paid. I am preparing a letter to those who have not paid requesting their immediate attention. If they do not respond, then I will visit them one last time before legal action is considered.

Treasurer Report ?– 64 out of 92 homeowners have paid their 2008 dues. We are eagerly awaiting payment from the rest before the Association has no funds. There will also be a report at our Association meeting in September.

Crime - We all have to be aware and make the call to the police, when suspicious activity is observed. The Neighborhood Watch Team is being organized to create a plan for improving security and engaging participation. Let's all stay involved with this effort and assist as necessary.
There will be a "National Night Out" crime prevention event on August 5th. We will participate. Let's create a plan to communicate the importance of participation and prevention for that meeting. We can have a barbecue and a community meeting at the same time.
Any crimes that occur in the neighborhood need to be reported to our neighbors via email. Jeanne will be our primary coordinator for this, but we all need to be ready to assist.

Officer and Community Meetings: We will hold a community meeting/barbecue on August 5, during the "National Night Out". We'll need some type of bullhorn speaker so everyone can hear. I would like to propose that we have our official meeting on Tuesday evening, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. We'll need to arrange to meet at the school. More information is forthcoming on these events.

Concerns & Issues: Let's communicate any issues or concerns that we have as they pop up. We need to stay on top of the ever-changing events. If you have an email address and have not received a recent email from me, please email me and I will add you to the list.

At-Large Support Volunteers: The following have agreed to provide support: Tom Baselice, Chuck Wolfe, Gale Melton, and John Dunn. We will enlist their help in the near future.

Please be patient as this all comes together. We all work full-time and can only do so much. Email me or call me with any of your concerns.

CRIME
We are continuing to have break-ins and thefts IN BROAD DAYLIGHT PEOPLE! We need to somehow get a handle on this situation NOW. We have a critical need for people to carry out a process when the need arises.
We cannot wait any longer! The Neighborhood Watch Team will be organized to create a plan for improving security and engaging participation. Jeanne will be planning a meeting with the captains. Let's all stay involved with this effort and assist as necessary. Please have your thoughts in order and send those thoughts and processes to Jeanne at the Hickory Hollow email address. WE NEED YOUR INPUT. Please vent in the emails and then give us your solutions. The Board will be looking at those solutions as they meet before the September meeting.

This is what a BLOCK CAPTAIN does: Watches, notes, assesses, reports ANYTHING that is out of the ordinary. Report anything you see, hear, or KNOW to the BLOCK CAPTAIN. BETTER TO BE SAFE THEN SORRY.

Community Notes:

Community Swimming Pool
Holly Oaks Forest Community and Swim Club has been in the Arlington area of Jacksonville since 1962. It is a family oriented neighborhood association that offers swimming at its finest. This is one of the cleanest and clearest pool facilities in town. The pool is open each year from around Easter time until Labor Day. The pool has lifeguards on duty at all times and offers swim lessons in the summer months. We also offer water aerobics for the ladies or any man that wants a good workout. During the fulltime season, the pool is open from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Monday thru Saturday and from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm on Sundays.
Holly Oaks Clubhouse
Holly Oaks Clubhouse is available for rent by the community. It is large enough to hold wedding receptions, Christmas parties, or a birthday party for that special someone. Tables and chairs are available. We also have a newly renovated kitchen. For more information about renting the clubhouse call the pool number (904) 641-8833.
