The Grant Park Civic Association held its August 15, 2000, meeting at the Grant Park Recreation Center. This was of course the general monthly meeting with approximately 12 persons attending.

City Council Woman Gwen Miller attended the meeting and addressed the group also allowing for questions and answers. She was in my opinion very open with the people and seemed to answer questions strait forward.

There were still the same complaints concerning drugs, prostitution, poor lighting and speeders. Along with overgrown, vacant lots and some zoning issues.

The Civic Association itself is undergoing some growing pains and some revisions are needed. There is a need to set a new board of directors for the association and to solicit additional help from the membership.

Let me remind each of you who reside in Grant Park, this is your community, the place you chose to live, take pride in the community, commit yourselves to the hard work it take to make a community strong, safe and a great place to live.

Instead of always asking what the City and County Governments and its agents can do for you and / or your community, tell them what you are willing to do you self to make your community a better place to live. Ask what you can do, take pride, be a part of the things to come.

Grant Park has seen its ups and downs as many communities have. There are a lot of people who have lived in Grant Park 30, 40, 50, years and more and has seen the times change. Grant Park is now growing again. New construction everywhere with the building of new homes. Look around people, while Grant Park is not as bad as other communities, do you like what you see.

Would you like to have a safer, cleaner community for yourselves and your children to live in. If so it will take the effort of many who are willing to give just a little.
