Summer 2006

Happy summer!!! It?’s great to be enjoying warm weather with family and neighbors. The rain this past week has put a bit of a damper on the outdoor fun, but hopefully will clear prior to the holiday weekend!

Garage Sale

There have been several inquiries as to whether or not we will be holding our Neighborhood Garage sale. We are targeting late summer/early fall as the timeframe. Volunteers may be needed to help coordinate. More details to follow in the coming months.

Home Security

As you may have read in our local newspapers, Murrysville Police have advised homeowners to take extra precautions in securing their homes and vehicles. There have been some home invasions in the municipality that have resulted in theft. If you have a home security system, you may want to consider using it at night while sleeping, as well as when you leave your home during the day. Additionally, they advise that ladders be stored out of view, that garage doors be kept closed when you are not in the vicinity, and that car doors be locked when parked outside.

Neighborhood Safety

With our children and walkers on our streets in this warm weather, this is a reminder of the 25 mile per hour speed limit. We have several cars that go entirely too fast for this area. Please be aware of your speed and take the time to slow down.

FERA?’s Future

We have had limited response to our request for residents to fill the positions on the Board of Directors. We recently had our Treasurer, Fred Holcomb, resign which leaves us with 2 positions vacant (Treasurer and Vice President). The two other positions (President and Secretary) will be vacated by Rich Mickel and Monica Diacopoulos at the next Board Meeting (to be scheduled in the Fall). The future of FERA is at stake. Events such as the Neighbor Garage Sale and Halloween Parade, as well as the Neighborhood Directory could all be discontinued if we don?’t get volunteers to take over the leadership positions required of a Neighborhood Association. Please consider volunteering. The position descriptions are listed on our website at http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/mville/fera/history.html

Pets and Related Items

A reminder for pet owners to clean up after their pooches when walking them through the neighborhood. Several homeowners have noticed gifts left at the edge of their yards or at their curbs on both Jefferson and Lexington Streets.

On a related note, one of our neighbors, Kate Tuley has requested that her name be added to the Pet Sitter list for the summer. She has/will be distributing fliers, but can be reached at 724-733-0851 or KatesPetService@gmail.com. She has Red Cross Pet Certification and has experience with most household pets.

Enjoy the Summer!
