Fox Run Plantation

The Ice Storm

Mar 28, 2004

At the end of January much of South Carolina experienced one of the worst ice storms in recent memory. Orangeburg was hit particularly hard. Many neighbors were without power for from two to four days. Many sought heat at the homes of friends or relatives. Others went to hotels or motels. Senior citizens, Harry and Mattie Riley, who are in their nineties, were taken to a fellow church member?’s home by neighbor, Dr. Luke, where he also stayed. The three Fox Run neighbors will like to publicly thank Russell and Georgia Mae Fields for taking them in for four days. Their hospitality revealed reflected the true Christian spirit.
The storm also caused a lot of damage to trees, especially pine trees, whose limbs broke off due to the weight of the ice. While the clean-up has begun, many yards still have a lot of broken trees. A phone call to the County administration revealed that the County will help with the collection of trees if they are put by the side of the road. The County is now in the process of getting tenders for the huge jobs. At this point there is no specific date when those workers will get to our community for the collection of the broken tree limbs.
