Howdy Neighbors...

Have any of you had a problem in the last few days with yellow jackets?? I had a veritable invasion - evidently there is a nest just inside my walls where the fire escape to the thrid floor goes into the house and where the cable company also ran the cable to the second floor. Anyway, I ended up calling Orkin after killing bees in my bedroom for the better part of two days. I only got one sting, which is a minor miracle. They(Orkin tht is,not the bees) sprayed and I'll know by tomorrow mid morning whether I need them to return.

This seems to be a bad year for bees...

Not a nice situation!

We noticed a resurgence of yellow jackets when the weather got warmer a few weeks ago. Prior to that we again had to kill off a few nests in our carport roof in early summer but they were very lethargic and easy to do away with then.

A few years ago we found a nest hanging from the rafters of the garage roof in the springtime, it was HUGE as big as a basketball.

I was listening to NPR a few weeks ago and they mentioned how yellow jackets are opportunists when making nests, any crevice or crack and even up in some trees. They mentioned checking where you grab the handles of your garbage carts-that's a favorite in the City.

  we also had an invasion thru a crack in the foundation. Our basement had hundreds of

them. we had to kill them 3 different times before we got them all.

We have a nest inside the siding of the house. The really bad part, it is right on the stairway to our tenants door! She can't go past it without stirring them up. I have tried everything I know of and can not afford to call an exterminator so...

One neighbor further up has a nest the size of a large football hanging right at the top of the roof overhang! They bothered her so much she finally did call Batzners. I never did ask her how much it cost and they do gurantee their work!
