Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 8/18/14

 

Officers Present:  Dave Densmore, President

                             Mikki Niemi, Vice President: Interim Treasurer

                            Tere Filkin, Secretary; Councilperson

                            Oscar Tortosa, Sgt at Arms; Councilperson

                            Dorothy Niemi, Historian

 Guest Speakers:  No guest speakers

Call to Order:  President David Densmore called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.

Moment of Silence

Introductions were made around the room

TPD Report:  No officer was present

Minutes:  Motion to accept the July 2014 minutes as written was asked for, Mikki Niemi asked for a correction to the minutes for the Treasurer's report given in July. He made a motion to postpone approval of the July Minutes until next month after correction made, seconded by Dorothy Niemi.  Motion was passed by all present.

Treasurers Report:  Treasurer Mikki Niemi reported $1960.21 in the ENA bank account after paying $150.00 for T-shirts. Motion to accept the treasurer's report made by Oscar Tortosa, and Tere Filkin seconded.   Motion was passed by all present.   

Old Business

 A) Dave displayed the T-shirts and announced anyone volunteering at the Night Out Celebration will receive a T-Shirt.

B) Night Out Celebration-Hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, chips will be served, along with potluck.  Visa gift cards in the amount of $100.00 to be used.  Dave will bring drinks. Members were asked to approve up to $150.00 more.  Motion made by Don Harders, 2nd by Oscar Tortosa to approved spending that amount, passed by all present. 

C) Dorothy Niemi brought up the idea of moving meetings to library or a school.  Current location is convenient for all, meetings to remain at Church.

New Business:            

A)   Mikki Niemi presented a map of the neighborhood and pointed out sites for possible parks.  No money is available from the City, but could explore whether or not County bond money is available

B)  Street Lights were discussed. Need to check with County to see if bond money is available.  A survey would need to be done of the entire neighborhood if funds are found as to where the lights are most needed.

C)   Dumping in neighborhood was discussed.  A group from Salpoint HS, working with Tucson Clean & Beautiful will be cleaning the walking path in Oct.  Anyone wishing to assist please contact Dave.  There is also a group that cleans along Pinta twice a year. 

Call to the Audience:    A) Issues in ENA were discussed.  Linda Vasquez & Rahcel Tortosa both suggested we put problems behind us and work together.  Don Harders suggested a copy of the By-Law be brought to meetings so everyone can view them. Dave reminded everyone a copy of the By-Laws are available on the website. 

B) Mikki Niemi stated minutes should be taken at any ENA meeting; officer meeting, council or committee meetings.  Meetings will either need to be made when Secretary can attend or someone will need to be appointed to take minutes.

C) Eddie Islas stated that Santa Clara Elementary school is back in session and they now have around 760 students due to the change back to K thru 6th grade. Challenger is now 7th & 8th grade only.

D) Dave announced Santa Clara UMC is holding Kith & Kin Project meetings on Mondays 9:00 a.m. To 11:00 a.m. @ 6740 S Santa Clara for those caring for children.  Flyers were available, or contact Martha @ 520-903-3926 to register or for questions. 

President's report:  Dave asked members to consider volunteering for the Council.  He also asked members to invite one of their neighbors for the next meeting.

Adjournment:  Motion to adjourn was made by Linda Vasquez, seconded by Able Salcido.   Motion was passed by all present.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
