Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 4/21/14

 

Officers Present:     David Densmore, President                                                                         

                                       Tere Filkin, Secretary; Councilperson 

                                        Oscar Tortosa, Sgt at Arms; Councilperson

Guest Speakers:  Jenny Kading. Pima Animal Care Center         

Call to Order:  President David Densmore called the meeting to order at 6:57 p.m.

Moment of Silence

Introductions were made around the room

TPD Report:  There have been a few burglaries, car-jacking and stolen cars in the area. Be aware of your neighborhood, who belongs and who doesn't; report anything suspicious.  Discussed TPD Facebook, and  various reports available on-line for what happens in our neighborhood.   

Minutes:  Motion to accept the Mar 17, 2014 minutes as written was made by Oscar Tortosa and seconded by Pam Figueroa.    Motion passed by all present.

Treasurers Report:  Treasurer Mikki Niemi was not present.  No report.

Old Business:  The  walking path clean up held on March 29, 2014 went very well.  Everyone did a great job!                                                                                   

New Business:      

A) Jenny Kading, PACC  Outreach Coordinator was the guest speaker and spoke about PACC role in the community to protect the health and safety of both people and animals.  Over 500 thousand pets in Pima Co with only approximately half of those licensed.  They responded to 31,732 calls in 2013 and have an average of 500-700 animals in shelter per day.  They have a 76% placement rate.  They have applied for a grant to trap, spay and release ferrel cats, hopefully in the next six months.  Also they are one of the 50 shelters in the country competing in the Rachel Ray Shelter Program Contest; they hope to adopt 3500 pets by Aug.

B)  Dave announced that Mikki has been obtaining information on robo-calling to announce our neighborhood meetings.  Cost would be $150.00 for 3000 minutes.  Motion made by Abel Salcido to explore less expensive options, 2nd by Oscar Tortosa.  Motion passed by everyone.

Call to the Audience:   

A)  Cub scout group in our neighborhood wants to get involved in helping the community and also needs adults to help out.

B) Abel Salcido stated the Pima County Jail would like to involve juvenile offenders in working to help clean up the neighborhood but need a responsible party to meet and provide leadership.  They would also need water provided.

C) Hope Church Pastor Agustin Jimenez announced they are sponsoring a Cinco de Mayo celebration on Sunday, May 4th from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.   They will have train rides, a jumping castle and other activities for the kids from 2-4.

President's report:  Dave announce that Mikki and Dorothy Niemi are exploring obtaining grants.   Discussed the possibility of a guest speaker for next month concerning a neighborhood website where items, announcements, etc  could be posted within our neighborhood, the idea was favorable.  Also, talked about the placement of our signs near member's properties so they can be monitored and stored for ease of placement.

Adjournment:  Motion to adjourn was made by Oscar Tortosa, seconded by Abel Salcido.   Motion was passed by all present.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:26 p.m.
