Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 1/20/14


 

Officers Present:  David Densmore, President

                                            Mikki Niemi, Vice President; Interim Treasurer

                                             Tere Filkin, Secretary; Councilperson

                                              Dorothy Niemi, Historian

                                              Oscar Tortosa, Sgt at Arms; Councilperson

Guest Speakers:  No guest speakers

Call to Order:  President David Densmore called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.

Moment of Silence

Introductions were made around the table

TPD Report:  Officer Grandoise reported that there were over 1000 incidents of graffiti reports in the district.  If you see graffiti call it in.

Minutes:  Motion to accept the Dec 16, 2013 minutes as written was made by Oscar Tortosa and seconded by Abel Salcido.    Motion was passed by all present.

Treasurers Report:  Treasurer Mikki Niemi reported $1079.00 in ENA bank account Motion to accept the treasurer's report made by Oscar Tortosa and Tere Filkin seconded .   Motion was passed by all present. 

Old Business:

A) The letters to City of Tucson, Environmental Services and Pima County Housing were sent to support their grant.

B) There wasn't enough support for the Christmas light contest, Oscar Tortosa  suggested we use those Visa gift cards for our Night Out, Mikki Niemi seconded that suggestion and everyone present agreed.

New Business:      

A) Yearly elections were held, the results are:  Dave Densmore, president; Tere Filkin, Secretary; Oscar Tortosa, Sgt at Arms.  Councilpersons were elected remaining the same: Oscar Tortosa, Rachel Tortosa, Sam Valdovin, and Tere Filkin.

Call to the Audience:   

A) Discussion of checking with the Sunnyside School District about opening the area behind Santa Clara School for a park.

B) Dorothy Niemi stated that she has experience writing grants and we should explore what grants are available for our neighborhood. 

C) Flyer's to draw more people to the meetings was discussed.  Printing a short flyer asking what people want in their neighborhood to distribute door to door.

 President's report:  Dave suggested some members attend the PTA meeting and will contact Eddie about times.

Adjournment:  Motion to adjourn was made by Abel Salcido seconded by Oscar Tortosa.   Motion was passed by all present.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
