Elvira Neighborhood Association Meeting 6/17/13

 

Officers Present:  David Densmore, President         

Mikki Niemi, Vice President; Interim Treasurer                       

Tere Filkin, Councilperson ; Interim Secretary

Dorothy Niemi, Historian

 

 Guest Speaker:  There was no guest speaker this month.

 Call to Order:  David Densmore called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m.

 Moment of Silence

TPD Report:  Officer Doug Wilfert reported crime was down in our area.  Residents commented that they've seen more of a police presence in the neighborhood lately. Capt. Ramon Batista is being rotated to another section and a new Captain will start in July.

MinutesMotion to accept the May 20, 2013 minutes as written was made by Mikki Niemi and seconded
by Oscar Tortosa   Motion was passed by all present.

Treasurers Report:  Treasurer Mikki Niemi reported no change in the balance but we do have some checks to
deposit.  Motion to accept the treasurers report made by Oscar Tortosa and seconded by Tere Filkin.   

Old Business:      

A) The By-Laws have been finished and the committee will meet to review once the new copy is typed up by Mikki Niemi.  They will then need to be read in a monthly meeting for neighborhood approval.

New Business:       

A) A discussion was held to start thinking about the Night Out Against Crime which will be held on Tuesday, Oct 1, 2013.  Members agreed to have hamburgers, hot dogs and chips.  A committee will be set up at the July meeting.

B) Laura Dent representative for Ward One reported a proposal for water harvesting along the walking path has been submitted for the 12% Gaming Funds available for  our neighborhood.  Laura also suggested we consider
discussing a project for the area at Los Reales and Santa Clara in relation to the De Anza Trail.

Call to the Audience Call:     

A) Dejon Giffords spoke again about her concern that the mosaic Elvira Neighborhood signs east of 12th Ave and her wish that they be  left as is.  This will be discussed by the ENA Council and Officers to decide if/when this should be an agenda item so a final decision on this issue can be made by the Elvira Neighborhood Association members.

B) Dorothy Niemi stated an interest in setting up a guest speaker to talk about home businesses in the neighborhood.

C) Mikki Niemi stated the Sunnyside School Board would be meeting Tues, June 18th to decide whether or not to extend  Dr Manuel Isqierdo's contract as supervisor.  He urged anyone interested to attend the meeting.

D) Laura Dent reported Councilperson Regina Romero supports the idea of the 12th Avenue improvement and hopes the county will include it in  its 2014 bond request to voters.  They are encouraging everyone support the 12th Avenue corridor.

Adjournment:                                                                                                                                                                       Motion to adjourn was made by Tere Filkin and seconded by Lydia Castillo.   Motion was passed by all present.   Meeting was adjourned at 8:01 p.m.
