Edgemoor

After our Summer Break---Our first Fall Meeting

Oct 18, 2002

MINUTES OF EDGEMOOR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

Sept. 19, 2002 Edgemoor Meeting called to order at 7:30 P.M.
Guest Speaker Fred Hariman from the Volunteer Road Patrol & Disabled Parking Enforcement spoke to us about the need for more volunteers. These volunteers ride 2 per patrol car and check on thing like abandoned vehicles, found property like bikes, suspicious circumstances and help our police officers by directing traffic at accidents.
They are the extra eyes in our community and it only takes a minimum of 8 hours a month.
The Disabled Parking Enforcement drives around in their own vehicles and check on cars parked in the Handicap parking spots. If the vehicle is not properly marked to be there, they will either warn the person or give them a ticket.
Training for these programs is done at the Citizen?’s Academy and the contact is Jim Bruno 893-7141.
Pastor Jim Burton from Faith Covenant Church and Mike Patterson the project manager for the church?’s proposed expansion gave us a presentation of their plans. The church is looking to build a new sanctuary and additional parking. The church now owns the four houses across the street on Hampton Ave. and one of their proposals would involve vacating the traffic on Hampton Ave. to turn it into church green space and parking. There are many variances that need to be applied for in order to accomplish this and they are looking for input and support from the Association.
We learned that the original proposal for Puryear Park has been tabled at this time. The lighting will be changed and they are trying to relocate some of the soccer games and disperse some of the usage.
Our Community police officer Joe Troung talked to us about the parking problems along Southwest Blvd.. He also informed us about car burglaries, home burglaries and surveillances which are all tings that the Community patrol officer is called to do. They are also used to teach Gang Resistance classes in the Middle Schools and Gun Safety in the Elementary Schools.
A motion was made and approved for us to pay our Cona dues. Also, we need to locate a regular Cona representative from our neighborhood.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
