TRAFFIC HOTLINE number is 704-432-2120 or email the Traffic HotlineThe TRAFFIC HOTLINE is not an emergency line. It will direct callers to three different areas of assistance.1. REPORT A TRAFFIC VIOLATOR:Accepts information about an observed traffic violation that occurredIn Mecklenburg County. The caller must leave the North Carolina registration plate number (out of state registrations not accepted), description of the vehicle and driver known, date, time, and location of the violation, and a detailed description of the violation. Although the caller's identification will not be disclosed, the caller must leave his/her name and telephone number for verification purposes. This call generates a letter to the registered owner of the vehicle, indicating the concern and possible consequences of the driving behavior. This program had previously been handled by the Chief's office and NEPS.
REPORT A TRAFFIC SAFETY CONCERN:
Accepts information about any traffic safety concern. If the concern is validated, it will be handled by HITS or forwarded to the appropriate patrol district. The caller may leave his/her name and phone number if they would like to speak to an officer.
TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT ANY OTHER TRAFFIC RELATED MATTER:
The caller is given the number to HITS, which is 704-336-4465 or may leave a name and number for a returned call.
