Public safety in our neighborhoods is a serious issue.
Crime seems to run rampant, but we are oblivious until we are a victim. I am tired of the burglaries going on all around us, and working hard for our things, just to have some low life take it away like it's nothing to them.
This brings us to the issue of our, yes, OUR police department. They are short staffed and have low morale. Who do we blame for this? It's not the officer's fault that I had to wait two hours for a response, or was told to handle a call over the phone. It's not the detective's fault that he/she is so overwhelmed with case load, that they can't remember my case or don't even contact me about it.
I hope fire rescue still responds to medical emergencies when needed...I know they went three years without a contract.
So who do we blame? If the police department and city administration was run like a business, it would have gone bankrupt years ago. Someone needs to take a look at this or at least have knowledge of whats going on.
I found this on the internet after reading the article about the police contract negotiations. No wonder there's low morale and short staffing. The hard working officers were offered 3% for three years. I guess public safety is not a real concern for the city administration. Well it is for me.
