Coquina Key Property Owners Association

I am interested in what other residents on the island think of the closing. I think it is unfortunate that Publix would close this store instead of enlarging it. The reason, I don't do most of my shopping there is because of its limited inventory. Unlike the large stores at Northeast Shopping Center and Maximo Shopping Center, the one at Coquina Key Plaza is a lot smaller, which limits its inventory. I do like shopping at Publix, but if they are not interested in this area maybe its time to try one of the other Grocery Store Chains. I hear there is a petition going around, unfortunately I don't think it will do any good. What do you think?

Publix Closing

I think the Publix closing is going to be detremental to the area. Even if the store is replaced it will probably be replaced by a cheaper food chain like Food Lion. This gives the impression of an area in decline. If no store takes over it will be even worse and the shopping center will suffer more vacancies.

Of course, I agree that had Publix improved the store it would have been used more by area residents. I have written to Publix, Mayor Fisher and Councilman Peterman as well as Bill Maxwell who is an area resident. I think that there is a need for the City to apply some pressure on Publix to reconsider the decision.
