FLOODS AND WATER THEFT

Jan 26, 2007

The irrigation system depends on people opening and closing their valves and standpipe at the correct times.

If irrigation water is never taken, started late, shut off early, or the valve is only partially open during your time period, there will be a standpipe overflow or a pipe joint leak. Some joints are under the street and the repair is very expensive. Some standpipes are in backyards. Changing standpipes in the streets so the overflows don?’t show moves the overflow to a yard standpipe. The time of the overflow can be compared to the schedule to find out whose fault it is. The mayor has received complaints about the street floods. There are also some very upset people who do not like being flooded. You are legally responsible for damages caused during your time period.

Another problem is water theft. Water is being stolen if it is coming out of a valve other than the one belonging to the irrigation time slot owner (unless permission has been given). Several people are blatantly stealing water. Water theft is a crime--the police can and will be called.

The standpipes are old. Do not overturn. Stop when you hit top or bottom.

RWCD is only responsible for getting water to the head on Hermosa Vista. Call us if there is a problem with your standpipe.

If you can only use part of your water?—let us know and we will try to match you up with someone who can share your period.

If you do not understand how the system works?—call us. We will be happy to show you.

TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORS.
TAKE TURNS WITH THE VALVES.
SHARE THE WATER.
