Last Four Miles: A Plan to Complete Chicago's Lakefront Park System

The Last Four Miles Plan would add almost 500 acres of new parks and beaches, which provide recreational and health benefits for urban dwellers. The plan would complete a single lakefront-long park to knit the city together and extend the lakefront trail for walkers, runners, as well as those who want to stroll and enjoy the lake-to Evanston on the north and to the Indiana border on the south-with links to existing and proposed trail projects throughout the Chicago region.

Friends of the Parks is partnering with the Chicago State University Library and Geography Department and the Lake Calumet Vision Committee to host an exhibit at the Chicago State University Library through February 15, 2011.  The self-guided exhibit on the fourth floor features videos of South Chicago and the Calumet area, as well as The Last Four Miles: A Plan to Complete Chicago's Lakefront Park System.

Economic Benefits
Completing the Last Four Miles would increase property values adjacent to the new parkland and beach areas, as well as promote economic revitalization with new small businesses in the vicinity of the new lakefront parks. New construction jobs would be generated.
