Meeting Minutes of Neighborhood Meeting 5/16/2006

Bonnie Dickinson called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

General statement to the attendees:
• Crime and vandalism are increasing
• Home care is decreasing

Guests were introduced:
Patrick Krouse – Neighborhood Partnership Office
Paul Hernandez – Code Compliance
Carolyn Rodgers – Principle at Discovery Elementary
Joyce Clark – District Councilwoman

Mr. Krouse
• Spoke of the approved grant to have a design for Chaparral Country Estates made. There is an approximate 3 month approval process to get the design approved. June 13th would be the early date for our approval.
• His office also works on mediation
• HOM training
• Joyce Clark office was also contributing an additional $2000 to assists us in the design.

Carolyn Rodgers
• Spoke of the increase in the poverty indicators at the school
• The school is able to discipline children that are causing the issues to and from the school.
• The school has tightened up the rules
• Made us aware of possible retaliation from those that may be disciplined
• No known gangs causing trouble in the neighborhood.

Code Compliance

Paul Hernandez
• Citations are being made for non-compliance
• Saw nothing wrong with the “restaurant house” code wise.
• The “Bus House”
1. There appears to be a fight looming with the insurance company
2. He needs contact information to those that are making complaints
3. Personal letters to him about the bus and willingness to testify if required.
4. We should have a realtor assess the devaluation to the homes in the adjacent properties due to the “bus house”
5. Personal letters need to be specific.
• Other issues:
1. McCullen - condition of properties on that street, saw little compliance issues
2. Clarified right of way issues and owner responsibilities

Joyce Clark
• MEGA Events
1. Aug 12th first preseason football game
2. Cabela’s
3. Aug 19th & 20th Stadium open house
4. She has a Citizen Steering Committee of 17 people looking at:
• Traffic safety (neighborhood cut through)
• Public transportation
• Local ID for residence
• Street closures
5. 20 Story Hotel
6. Wells Fargo
7. Shopping Center at SE corner of 83rd and Glendale
8. NW corner of 83rd and Glendale - Grocery store/shopping center

When will park be funded?
Information is pending. Skate park portion early 2007. Library 2008 – 2009

A general discussion was then held with the attendees.

1. The question concerning the naming of the neighborhood came up. After a lengthy discussion those in attendance decided that Chaparral Country Estates as the name for our new entrance design – if approved by the city council.
2. We will need to register the size of our Neighborhood Watch. It was agreed to the limit of the homes from 79th to 81st along W. Tuckey Lane.
3. Clean up day for the common areas – June 10th from 6 AM till too hot. Volunteers signed a pledge of support .
4. Meeting Schedule – the 3rd Tuesday(s) in July (then October, Feb, May)

Lona Izdepski shared with the committee her idea on welcoming new neighbors. This would include a basket containing cups, a welcome neighbor letter and a list of codes, contacts.

It was decided that donations to the Neighborhood Committee would be $10.00 per year. Carol Linares was approved as Treasurer.

July 8th would be a neighborhood picnic from 7:00 PM till 9:00 PM.

The meeting was then adjourned.
