Register Residential Rental Properties

Jul 17, 2003

Did you know that residential rental properties are required by state statute to be registered? Arizona Revised Statute 33-1902(A) and 33-1902(B) require residential rental property owners to provide ownership and contact information to the county assessor?’s office of the county in which they are located. Residential rental properties are properties that are leased or rented for residential purposes. The information allows public safety agencies at the state, county and municipal level to contact the property owner in case of emergency and gives municipalities a way to supply property owners with information. Failing to comply with the law carries a fine of $1000 and an additional $100 for each month thereafter the property remains unregistered.

The Neighborhood Services and Police departments are working with the Arizona Multifamily Association and Phoenix Realtors Association on an education campaign to get the word out. Meantime, if you know of a residential rental property in you neighborhood that is not registered-or if you own a residential rental property and need to register it-call the Neighborhood Preservation Division at (602) 262-7844. Division staff members can help with registration information and supply registration forms.
